Vertical lift module or vertical carousel – which one to choose?
Both systems save floor space and bring goods to the operator, but they work differently and fit different products.
How a vertical lift module works
Trays are stored in two columns at the front and back of the unit. An extractor in the middle picks the requested tray and delivers it to the access opening. The unit measures the height of every load and stores it with only a few centimetres of space, so it uses the height of the building very efficiently – up to 15 m or more.
How a vertical carousel works
Shelves are attached to a chain and rotate like a paternoster lift. The shortest route is chosen automatically, so the next shelf arrives in a few seconds. Carousels are ideal for lower ceilings and very frequent access to light items.
Quick comparison
VLM: higher capacity, heavier loads (up to 1,000 kg per tray), best use of tall buildings. Carousel: faster access times, simpler mechanics, lower purchase price, better for files and small electronics.
Our advice
Start with your data: number of SKUs, their dimensions and weight, and the number of picks per hour. With these figures we can show you in one session which system pays back faster.
